EVENT LAUNCH - Remember the date! The Lean Global Connection 2024 will take place on Nov. 21 and 22. In this article, our editor introduces the event's theme and tells what participants can expect from the largest online Lean event in the world.

Words: Roberto Priolo

In just over 100 days, the global lean community will gather for the fourth edition of the Lean Global Connection. Over the past four years, the LGC has become one of the most anticipated lean events of the year, with thousands of participants from more than 120 countries.
This year, we decided to explore the role that Lean Thinking can play in our changing world. In particular, we will focus on the greatest gift Lean can give us: adaptability.
The world is changing at an unprecedented rate. Words such as "deglobalization" are increasingly used and reflect an increasingly complex and multipolar reality, in which countries are seeking "risk reduction" by minimizing global interdependence. A new Cold War seems to be emerging, weakening already compromised supply chains and forcing companies to devise new and clever ways to move goods, while a new arms race heralds change for many economies. At the same time, the spread of generative AI promises to change the labor market as we know it, with unpredictable consequences. You may think this has nothing to do with you, but make no mistake these historic changes will affect the way your organization operates.
To thrive, companies will need to understand the world they are in, be curious and willing to experiment, while coming up with solid long-term strategies. Leaders, of course, will need to do their part by ensuring that continuous learning permeates their organization and that the right skills are developed.
This year's Lean Global Connection will help you make sense of a messy, changing world by bringing you the stories of organizations that are using creativity and lean to find their way forward. We'll hear from countless organizations and from experts on geopolitics, the future of work, AI and more.

DISCOVER SMED

Some people have called the Lean Global Connection "the Olympics of Lean", and this inspired us to do something we've never done before: have our own mascot! The Olympics are currently being celebrated in Paris, and if they can have a mascot, why can't we!

Everyone, this is Smed the chameleon! What animal could better represent adaptability than one that can change color to adapt to its environment? Smed will help us promote the event and play a role during the LGC itself. It's safe to say you'll be seeing Smed a lot in the coming weeks!

THE FORMAT OF THE EVENT

At the Lean Global Network, our mission is to spread Lean Thinking and Practice around the world, and we see the Lean Global Connection as a fundamental tool to do that. That's why the LGC will again be completely free! We will also keep the same 24-hour format, starting at 14:00 UTC on November 21, 2024.

As in previous years, we will offer multiple tracks, meaning you can choose between 2 or 3 presentations during most of the event. We also have panel discussions and the quiz, always a favorite with attendees. In addition, there are a few new formats that we will tell you more about in the coming weeks.

Last year, people spent an average of 4.5 hours watching the event. Let's try to beat that! And help us spread the word about the Lean Global Connection. The more we are, the more we contribute to spreading Lean around the world.

More information about the event and confirmed speakers (and there are FOUR more to come) is available here. You can register here.

We are very excited about this year's event and hope to see you all on Nov. 21 and 22!
